This claim I can say without a doubt holds zero basis in fact we actually have had about the same number of suicides as last year as of August 27th.
Robo-debt and the bush fires were likely candidates that could skew the data however after eliminating Robo-debt analysis of Bush Fire data was not required given we need only look at Jan - March 2020 to consider the fires impact on this years suicide count we can also exclude Sep - Dec 2019 as we only consider 2020 up till 27th August hence those months can be excluded from 2019, these factors mean the fires would only increased 2020's toll yet we have had less suicides so analysis of fire data was not required to arrive at the same conclusion.
There is no shame asking for help, in my mind it's actually sign of strength and a desire for growth!
My Mental Health has a great summary of services available that are there to help :)
Peta is very specific with this claim and makes it multiple times she states "We've seen more boys under the age of 18 in nine months than we've ever seen (in Victoria) in a 12 month period" this is sloppy journalism as this claim is disproved on half of the rows in the table (2019 we had the same amount of under 18 male suicides and 2016 we had one more) report she cites (see table 3 Frequency by age group and sex).
I do not know how she got to this conclusion as we have actually had 4 less deaths to suicide in Victoria than the same period last year despite suffering bush fires and a pandemic. We have not seen more than 725 deaths in Victoria by suicide as reported by the Coroners Court back as far as at least 2016. Our current COVID death toll however is 810. Currently our suicide death toll is likely to be on par with last year. To my knowledge there is no evidence to support Peta's claim. Yes mental health has suffered (increased call volume to Lifeline suggests this), but this has not resulted in additional suicides.
It is also worth noting that posts have been shared on social media of Sky News Australia displaying stats from this report with a heading nearby "The Lockdown State", at least one of their fans has mistakenly assumed that this meant to be that the suicides were due to COVID. That's actually how I was made aware of this segment and why I've fact checked it.
I've ignored everything else as it is purely opinion based or based on statements which have been proven to be untrue or unrealistic.
